A Pozzibility

Photographer and Publisher YVES SUTER (31) is based everywhere and nowhere. He didn’t know he was known for anything. What makes you get out of bed in the morning? The love of life. What do you like most about your hometown Brunnen in Switzerland? It is on lake Vierwaldstättersee, and only 5 minutes from ski slopes in winter. I love the clean air and clean water, and the proximity to Zürich. Name three things you can’t leave the house without. My RICOH GR1 or my CONTAX T2 camera loaded with film, my headphones and my iPhone. What is your favorite song of the moment? There is a new song almost every day. Last week after attending their live concert THE ACID was on heavy rotation. This weekend TRITON by Marc Romboy vs Stephan Bodzin made my list. And today an unreleased song of my friends ECHO 106 is on play. One of my all time favorites is LUDOVIC EINAUDI. You are addicted to? Life & Japanese food. Which talent would you most like to have? I’d like to be able to fly. What good thing happened this summer? Everywhere I went it was really warm and sunny unlike at home. Is there anyone you want to punch in the face? No, violence is for stupid people. What’s the last lie you told? “I’ll only have one beer and then go straight home.” Instead of answering these questions, what should you be doing right now? Packing my bags. I must catch a flight to Tokyo in 2 hours. YVES SUTER tells stories of snowflakes in black and white while flashing into mysterious night scenes. His forensic shots of weird physical evidence document the oddities of life. Remnants of wild nightly escapades that none of his anonymous subjects would remember are quickly captured. His work is always on the go, in the flow and so is he. Traveling from Moscow to Brunnen to Tokyo, Suter is as restless and relentless as his work is. Photographs of the series IMMER NIE AM MEER (Always Never At The Sea) will be on view at Slope Gallery in Tokyo this month. He is currently working on the release of his new book ‘Motoracer’ to be published by HAKUIN in November. YVES SUTER – ALWAYS NEVER AT THE SEA at SLOPE GALLERY, Tokyo, opening Thursday, October 10, 6-8pm.
