Photographer VIVIANE SASSEN is widely celebrated for breaking free from many of the clichés of the fashion industry. She regards photography as a kind of ‘laboratory’ working with models, stylists and make-up artists in a process that is both fluid and experimental. In her collaborations with KINEE DIOUF she pushes the model’s body to the limits of abstraction. Sassen’s images disrupt traditional formats, utilizing vibrant colors, deep shadows and props to challenge the viewer’s perception. As the exhibition title suggests, Sassen’s images dance seductively along a borderline, crossing boundaries and mixing up genres, at once in and out of fashion. VIVIANE SASSEN – IN AND OUT OF FASHION opening at FOTOMUSEUM Winterthur, Friday, December 12, 6-9pm. The exhibition will be on view until February 15, 2015.
