VITRA DESIGN MUSEUM‘s upcoming exhibition »MAKING AFRICA – A CONTINENT OF CONTEMPORARY DESIGN« sheds light on a new generation of  entrepreneurs, thinkers and designers from and within Africa, who address a global audience and provide the world with a contemporary view on the continent. »Making Africa« shows how design is intertwined with economic and political change on the continent. A central role is played by the new media, which made this shift in perspective possible in the first place. In the lead-up to the exhibition numerous think tanks and interviews were held in major African cities such as Lagos, Dakar, Cape Town, Cairo or Nairobi. Some 70 designers, artists, architects, gallerists and curators contributed their unique resources on African design to support and enrich the exhibition. The objects presented show that design in Africa is understood on a much more inclusive level of everyday aesthetics than it is in Western societies. »Making Africa« reveals an innovative new approach to contemporary design. »MAKING AFRICA – A CONTINENT OF CONTEMPORARY DESIGN«, curated by Amelie Klein, Okwui Enwezor and Julia Friedel, opens March 14 and will be on view daily from 10am – 6pm through September 13 at the VITRA DESIGN MUSEUM in Weil am Rhein, Germany.
